How I Overcame The Fear Of Taking My Next Step

Everyone has a next step to take in their walk with Jesus. Sometimes we are afraid to take that step that’s seems so scary in the moment when it is actually the best thing we could do. Jesus recently laid on my heart a next step to take and I didn’t want to take the step because I was afraid of the outcome.

This past February I had to make a difficult decision whether I wanted to listen to Jesus and take a leap of faith or do what I wanted to do and limit what God wanted to do.

God told me in a quiet time to pack up my stuff and move to Anderson, South Carolina where I am currently going to school. I had no desire pack up and leave my family and friends in Georgia and I could not get past the idea of leaving everyone behind to go and live with classmates that I barely know. This was a fear that needed to be calmed and God knew it.

God placed on my heart Hebrews 13:6 that talks about the Lord being our helper. The entire process of thinking and praying, God was constantly reminding me that he is my helper and I don’t have to be afraid. With my faith on a mountain top and my Hebrews verse in my heart, I decided to listen to Jesus and make the move. God placed me in the perfect home with the perfect roommates and I could not be more happy and thankful. But getting to this point caused me to leave my comfort zone.

Leaving our comfort zone is always going to be the reason we choose not to take a step. But leaving that comfort zone is what will cause God to move in a way that will change our lives.

Living out God’s plans in our life is going to require us to step out of our comfort zones.

God wants do to immeasurably more in our lives. We can either limit that growth or welcome that growth.

Taking that next step can seem hard and scary. That verse in Hebrews “The Lord is my helper and I will not be afraid” is a refuge for us to grip and hold onto that reminds us that we are not alone or without help.

The truth is, God is with us in everything that we do. It’s always best to choose to follow what Jesus says.

You know your next step that God wants you to take and if you don’t ask him to reveal it to you.

Reflect:

•What is my next step?
•How can I take that step?
•What is holding me back from taking that step?
